Exploration History

c1904-1911: the Silver King Gold and Copper Co Ltd sunk a 2 compartment shaft to 100 ft. It is said that there is no drifting or cross-cutting. There was some stripping and trenching (about 130 ft, SW of the shaft). A small mill was said to have operated for a short time, but this is questionable. c1934: drilling by F. Chubb. 1948-50: Republic Lead Mines Ltd (later Republic Oils and Mines Ltd and then Republic Ores and Mining Corp Ltd) carried out some surface work (geology and sampling). Continental Lead Mines Ltd is reported (NMI # 070551, 1949 and Northern Miner, Feb 24, 1949) to have carried out work on claims adjoining the Silver King property, but there is no further information. 1980: some work is reported concerning pumping water from the shaft (Res Geol File). 1983: Sumach Resources (the former Republic Mines) made an agreement with W.S. Kennedy for 'exploration and development' (Northern Miner).

Geology

Province: Grenville

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The deposit is in a silicified shear zone within the Elzevir Granite. This steeply-dipping zone is 5-15 ft wide and 700 ft long. Mineralization consists of low % pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena and some bornite. Assay values for Au and Ag are significant.

Mineralization Comments

Mar 24, 2022 (Sheree Hinz) - In granite batholith 7 ft wide shear zone contains quartz stringers with galena, pyrite, and chalcopyrite. The best assay found was 17 oz/t Ag (reported in 1968)

May 26, 2022 (Q Unknown) - Thomson (1951) states that 2 carloads of material shipped to the Balback Smelting and Refining Co in 1906 assayed : 0.20 oz Au and 5.10 oz Ag (40,310 lbs dry weight); 0.18 oz Au and 8.17 oz Ag (32,082 lbs dry weight). Thomson reports assays from mineralized quartz along the open cut as: 0.26 oz/t Au, 17.02 oz /t Ag, 11.88% Pb; in schist from the footwall along the open cut: 0.28 oz/t Au. A 6 inch heavily-mineralized zone in the 'hanging wall' assayed: 0.08 oz/t Au, 5.30 oz/t Ag, 7.94% Pb. A sample across 10 ft of sheared material, N of the latter sample, assayed: 0.1 oz/t Au, 1.65 oz/t Ag, 2.87% Pb. Also, a 7 ft chip sample in the shear zone N of the shaft assayed: 0.04 oz/t Au, 1.09 oz/t Ag. A grab sample from the dump assayed: 0.02 oz/t Au, 1.99 oz/t Ag.
