Point Location Description: Shaft PY nearest Blakely Pyrite Mine symbol 5.

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: 2.5 km west of Hwy 37 on Hwy 7. 8.7 km north on County Road 20 from Hwy 7 to Queensborough (General Store). 1 km west of Queensborough on Co. Rd. 20, then 1.5 km south on side road. Stop at stream and walk east along south side of stream for 36 m.



Exploration History

1904-1908: The British Americal Development Company operated the Blakely Pyrite Mine. 2 shafts were opened (No. 1: 135 feet deep, 175 feet of drifting, No. 2: 30 feet deep). At least 65 carloads of ore were shipped by 1906. 1956: B.L. Long drilled 4 holes (163 ft). A pyritiferous schist zone with disseminated sphalerite, aresenopyrite, pyrite, chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite was intersected. 1960: E. C. Sager drilled 2 holes (220 ft) intersecting a zone of disseminated pyrite. Late 1960's: Syngenore Explorations Limited carried out an exploration program in the area. Diamond drilling was also carried out. 1973-74: Freeport Canadian Exploration Company carried out a ground electromagnetic and magmatic survey over the area. 1978: E.C. Sager drilled one hole (310.5 ft), no significant mineralization was detected (OFR 5548, p96).
