Exploration History

Pre- 1880 - Thomas Smart - mined for phosphate. The Smart Mine was said to have yielded a considerable amount of phosphate.

Lithology Comments

Jun 13, 2011 (A Wilson) - The workings consist of narrow cuts within an area about 90 m long. A major pit 5 m in depth, 1 to 1.5 m wide and 30 m long was sunk in part in a pyroxene-apatite-feldspar syenite dike and in part in a thin calcite vein with euhedral brown apatite crystals.

Mineralization Comments

Jun 13, 2011 (D Laidlaw) - Microcline variety amazonite, riebeckite variety crocidolite. The zircons are a brilliant hyacinth-red colour and the titanite crystals also are brilliant. Amazonite is reported to occur on this lot.
