Point Location Description: Pit in NE corner N1/2 Lot 1, Con 2.
Location Method: Data Compilation
Access Description: Best access to the pitted shear is from Highway 11 west of Matheson via the gravel road located on the common boundary of Currie and Bowman Townships. The pits are several tens of metres south of the gravel road terminus and may be reached by following on foot an overgrown trail.
1950: Messrs. E. O. Eckel and Foster: prospecting, pitting. 1965-70: W.J. Turney: HLEM survey; DD-2-425 ft.

Subprovince: Abitibi
Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi
Belt: Abitibi
Geological Age: Mesoarchean
Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist
Dec 08, 2015 (R Degagne) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) tholeiitic basalt and interflow sediment of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group which strike east northeast, dip steeply and face south. Intrusive rocks in the area include felsic stocks (the nearest of which is about 2.5 km southeast of the pits), narrow (generally no wider than several tens of metres) north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm and narrow (generally no wider than several tens of metres) northeast striking olivine diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Abitibi swarm. Most bedrock in the area is mantled by thick and locally complex glacial deposits. A recent geophysical survey of Currie Township failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors in the pitted area.

Dec 08, 2015 (A Wilson) - A tuffaceous flow top between diabasic lavas is rather highly sheared , and carries lenses of quartz-epidote vein material . Garnet was observed in the wall rock along the south edge of the sheared zone. The sheared tuff has bands up to a foot wide which are well mineralized with fine disseminated pyrite. The entire zone of shearing and mineralization is about 12 feet wide. It strikes N. 65° W. and dips at 80 degrees to the north east. A specimen from the most westerly pit, well mineralized with disseminated pyrite and also carrying stringers of quartz and pink feldspar.

Dec 08, 2015 (A Wilson) - About 500 feet south of the principal " showing" a small pit has been sunk on a second sheared zone on the west side of the hill. At this place, shearing is confined to a width of 18 inches in massive basic lavas. It has lenses of quartz accompanied by pink feldspathic material , and is heavily mineralized with disseminated cubic pyrite . A sample of the well-mineralized material, taken by the ODM , assayed a trace in gold . This shearing strikes due east and dips to the north at 85 degrees.
Dec 08, 2015 (R Degagne) - Leahy reported that pits expose quartz and quartz-carbonate veins within amphibolitic lavas mineralized with pyrite, chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite. Exposed in overgrown, detritus-filled, and flooded pits and trenches are foliated (sheared) (striking 110 and dipping steeply) amphibolite grade basalt and interflow argillite. The basalt is represented by the metamorphic mineral assemblage quartz-calcite-epidote-albite-actinolite. The argillites are represented by the metamorphic mineral assemblage quartz-albite-chlorite-amphibole-garnet-calcite-andalusite. Some argillitic samples contain 10-15% of pyrite; splashes of chalcopyrite may accompany quartz-rich augen within the argillites; no pyrrhotite was observed by the present writer. Leahy reported that no more than trace amounts of gold were obtained by him from the area. Sampling by the present writer failed to detect any gold assays greater than 0.01 ounce of gold per ton. Analyses: Sample AB-85-31: <0.01 Au opt, 16 Cu ppm, 16 Pb ppm, 165 Zn ppm. Sample AB-85-32: <0.01 Au opt, 405 Cu ppm, <10 Pu ppm, 180 Zn ppm.
