Operational Access Description: Mndm Site Rehabilitation Under The Abandoned Mines Rehabilitation Program In 2001. See File. Access; Proceed On Highway 17 West Of Highway 802 South And Follow To Fork, Continue Right Of Gate At Mine Site. History; Copper Was Discovered In The Early 1870's At The Current Mine Site. Between 1900-1908 Underground Development And Limited Copper Production By The New York And Canadian Copper Company Ltd. Property Was Known As The Tip Top Copper Mine. Continued Underground Development And Limited Copper Production Took Place Between 1916 And 1919. Property Was Further Developed And Had Limited Copper Production By The Shield Development Company Ltd. Between 1928-1929. Intermittent Exploration And Drilling By Various Companies Between 1942-1948. In 1951 Coldstream Copper Mines Ltd Was Incorporated. Between 1951-1953 Rehabilitation Of Underground Workings, Shaft Sinking And Lateral Development As Well As 47 Drill Holes Aggregating 10,619 Feet Were Completed. Main Infrastructure Including Development Of The Number 4 Shaft To A Depth Of 1,600 Feet The Construction Of Mill And Service Buildings Took Place Between 1955-1958. Production Was Halted In 1958 But Resumed In February, 1960 Under Management Of Noranda Mines Ltd. And Operated Continuously Until August 1967. Production Records Between 1957 And 1967 Indicate That 2,728,000 Tons Of Ore Were Treated To Produce 102,300,000 Pounds Of Copper, Plus Gold And Silver. Property Was Developed By 4 Shafts. All Underground Development And Production Since 1952 Were From The No.4 Shaft Sunk To A Depth Of 1,600 Feet And From Which 9 Levels Were Developed. Year 2000 Survey; Past Producer Now Under Closure Plan (c09 1-2). Unable To Visibly See Shaft Entrances For Measurements.
