Mineralization Comments

Mar 12, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - Timoshenko and Corkery (1989) reported that this occurrence is located on the south limb of a major west-southwest-trending antiform structure. Diamond drilling results indicate that the rocks of the area are dominated by mafic to intermediate metavolcanics with minor clastic metasediments, oxide facies iron formation and feldspar porphyry. The major west-southwest-trending fold is reported by Timoshenko and Corkery (1989) to have a well-developed axial planar fabric (i.e., foliation) that is parallel to most shear zones and quartz veins that have been observed in the Neawagank Lake area. Diamond drill hole NK-88-10 intersected a 1.5 m section of interbedded clastic metasediments and oxide facies iron formation that assayed 0.055 oz/ton Au (Timoshenko and Corkery 1989). The anomalous gold assay was associated with a horizon containing 1 to 10% sulphide consisting mostly of pyrrhotite and pyrite, with minor arsenopyrite and chalcopyrite. Three additional drill holes (NK-88-14, 15 and 16) were drilled in a fan pattern to intersect the mineralized horizon above and along strike with the intersection in drill hole NK-88-10 (Timoshenko and Corkery 1989). A number of anomalous gold assays ranging from 0.01 to 0.046 oz/ton Au were reported from these drill holes.
