Point Location Description: Precise, LOT: 9 CONC: 9 LEEDS. Third of four dot symbols ST from the west at Straw Hill.
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: Travel north on highway 15 from Kingston to the junction of highway 15 and 32. Continue north on highway 15 to the Thomas Road. Turn west and follow this road for approximately 1.5 km. to the entrance to the Straw Hill Quarry on the south side of the road. Follow the quarry road to a series of 3 quarries. The furthest quarry along the road is known as the Rideau Red Granite.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - This red granite is used for monument stone, crushed aggregate and armour stone. Some pyrite was noted in mafic seams in some of the extracted blocks. Large mafic clasts were also prevalent in some of the blocks making them less desireable for dimension stone. Grain size and colour varies locally and some irregular jointing patterns exist. At least two other quarries are associated with this site.

Notes: The deposit was visited by the author on November 8, 1999. An inventory of blocks was noted on site but the quarry appeared to be inactive.

Notes: The deposit was visited on July 29th, 2003. No production came from the site in 2003. In September of 2002, BDO Dunwoody Ltd., receiver and manager of Granimar Quarries Ltd., published an inventory on the site of approximately 100 m3 of Light Rideau Red and approximately 900 m3 of Dark Rideau Red Granite. The property and equipment were subsequently sold in late 2003.
