Exploration History

1966: The Sager family acquired freehold leases covering the old Diamond Gold Mine property. The Sager brothers, Albert and Gordon staked additional claims and by 1985 controlled 4,000 acres of mining rights. During this time, limited exploration work was conducted consisting of geological mapping, geophysical surveys, and diamond drilling on the property. 1985: W.J. Brown staked additional claims amounting to 840 acres. Fonteneau Resources Ltd., optioned the property (4,840 acres); a private company which transferred the option to Faith Mines Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Arbor Resources Ltd. (H.J. Bergmann, Rpt., File 104, Madoc Twp., 1987). 1995: W.J. Brown received an OPAP grant and conducted geochemical and geophysical surveying, prospecting and diamond drilling (OP95-377, 2.16956, Madoc files 128, 133). 2000: Stripping and prospecting by W.J. Brown (Madoc file 144, 2.20812).

Geology Comments

Aug 01, 2024 (Nazha Sabiri) - Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian, an RGP staff) visited the Lot 13, concession 10, his report stated: "This pit may have been an extension of the Sophia Gold mine which is located on lot 14, concession 10. At the Sophia Gold mine a quartz vein carrying both arsenopyrite and gold was discovered in 1896. The veins occur in volcanic rocks which strike northwest and dip vertically. It has been reported that 2 veins were located on the Sophia property. One of the veins named the 'mispickel vein' had a strike of due north and south. The 'free milling vein' had a strike of northwest to southeast."
