Exploration History

1901-1903: Coe or Moore iron mine was opened. Hematite ore was mined from an open pit to a depth of 75 feet. 1903-1906: The deposit was renamed the Eldorado Copper Mine and copper ore was mined from the deposit from a shaft below the 75 foot level of the pit. 1906: The shaft was abandoned and ore was extracted from an open cut to a depth of 300 feet. The Medina Gold Mining Company erected a copper smelter on the property. 1907: The Eldorado Copper Mine was owned by the Ontario Copper Company. Mining activities ceased in this year. 1956: Picton Uranium Mines Limited dewatered the shaft and re-examined the deposit. (OFR 5548, p106-107) 1992: Peter Dadson, as part of an O.P.A.P. grant, re-evaluated the potential for economic mineralization (OP91-334, Res Geol File 126). 2000: Phelps Dodge mapped and sampled the eastern portion of the property (2.21878, Res Geol File 145. 2001: Candor Ventures Corp.optioned the property from Phelps Dodge Corp. of Canada. In November of 2001, Candor diamond drilled 561.2 m as part of a 2 hole program. They were investigating the plunge extension of the past-producing mine. (2.22986, Tweed File 148).
