Mar 17, 2011 (A Wilson) - The pegmatite appears to be a phase of fine-grained garnetiferous granite resembling granites found elsewhere in the area. The pegmatites cut banded hornblende-biotite gneiss that has been injected lit-par-lit by the garnetiferous granite. Some of the pegmatites are as wide as 20 feet, but generally they are irregular in shape. Modern mapping has identified the gneisses as monzogranites, locally veined by quartzofeldspathic material.

Aug 02, 2013 (A Wilson) - Allanite occurs as well-developed crystals ranging from 1/8 inch to ¾ inch in diameter and usually less than 2 inches in length. Allanite is found in three dykes on the north shore of the lake. The largest exposure of allanite was approximately 18 square yards. An analysis of the allanite returned 0.44% ThO, 19.58% (Ce, La, Di)2O3, and 1.64% (Yt, Er) 2O3. Individual allanite crytals are surrounded by a zone of radial fractures and reddish alteration. A chip sample collected by E. R. Rose over a width of 2 feet from a pit returned 0.3% Ce and 0.1% La.
