May 02, 2011 (A Wilson) - The graphite-bearing units are interlayered with rusty but non-graphitic biotite-quartz-feldspar gneiss. This gneiss has a weak foliation shown by elongation of biotite flakes and varying proportions of biotite. Segregation into leucocratic and melanocratic layers begins 1.6 km further west along strike from the location point. The metamorphic grade appears to be increasing to the west but distinct gneissic layering may be due more to the initial composition of the rocks rather than to an actual increase in metamorphic grade. The paragneiss in the vicinity of the major graphite body appears to have been an impure arkose.

May 02, 2011 (A Wilson) - The graphitic unit contains graphite in 0.5-mm to 3-mm flakes, biotite and pyrrhotite. Graphite content approaches 10 per cent of the unit. Three graphite samples were analysed for carbon, and one was analysed for trace elements. Carbon content for 3 samples ranged from 2.27% to 4.51%. The graphitic unit contains about 10 percent graphite (visual estimate), biotite, and pyrrhotite. The large amount of pyrrhotite causes this unit to weather rapidly and deeply. Fresh material could not be reached in the outcrop. The amount of sulphides present could not be determined. The graphite is directly associated with pyrrhotite. Units which contain little or no pyrrhotite contain little graphite. The graphite occurs primarily as 0.5 to 3 mm flakes.
