Point Location Description: Pit marked ' Gr ' just west of McWhirter Lake and east of York River.

Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: The pit was sunk in a hill that is reached by a logging road along the northwest shore of McWhirter Lake. This road extends northeast to a road in Con 9. Alternatively, an old trail runs from the end of the road between con 6 and 7 to the south end of McWhirter Lake.



Exploration History

Property staked in 1909 and restaked in 1942 but pit probably not excavated until 1950s. Pit is said to be 12 x 15 x 6 ft deep; on the W side, near the top on the hill just W of McWhirter Lake.

Mineralization Comments

Jan 18, 2012 (A Wilson) - Graphite occurs in fine flakes up to 1/8 inch in diameter and in fine seams, lenses, and patches within amphibolite. Some samples from the west dump contain considerable fine graphite, but material exposed in the pit is of poor quality and grade.
