Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - A 4-5 ft bed of laminated gypsum in Beekmantown dolomite ( Oxford Formation ) at 190 ft depth in the Cornwall-Lancaster area. Thin gypsum beds are interlayered with the dolomite for 5 ft above and below the main gypsum bed. The occurrence is continuous over a wide area, as shown by Ontario Hydro drilling ( 1954 ) in the Long Sault dam site area and in the vicinity of the Barnhart Island powerhouse. Westroc Industries Ltd also drilled, in 1969-72, and intersected gypsum grading up to 78 % purity.
