Lithology Comments

Jul 30, 2012 (A Wilson) - The deposit consists of a wide band of kyanite-muscovite-garnet-biotite gneiss which strikes northeast and dips about 35-40° to the north-west. The hanging wall gneisses to the north-west are biotite amphibolite, the footwall gneisses to the southeast consist of strongly foliated biotite amphibolite. The country rock is a pink granite gneiss.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 30, 2012 (A Wilson) - The main part of the deposit is comprised of disseminated kyanite. It consists of coarse-grained, flat-bladed grey to blue kyanite crystals ½ to 3 inches in length and 1/8 to 3/8 inches in width. Pinkish-mauve garnet crystals up to ½ inch in diameter also are common. The kyanite forms up to 25% of the rock, but probably averages 15 to 20%. The massive type of ore consists of lenses or pod-like masses and stringers of kyanite. It is found along the contact of the kyanite gneiss, quartzite and dark gneisses of the hanging and foot walls. In some of these massive lenses, the kyanite forms up to 80% of the rock. These pods are limited in size, but one deposit at the south end of Crocan Lake, showed a flat-lying lens about 10 feet thick and upwards of 150 feet in length. An analysis of the kyanite returned: 62.22% Al2O3, 36.40 SiO2, 0.74Fel2O3 and 0.19 MgO. Assays from samples collected in 2005 returned 180-247 ppm Cu, 131-140 ppm Ni and 1050 - 1750 ppm Zn. Graphite occurs along slips and in granite pegmatite cutting the gneiss.
