Access Description: Best Township, District of Nipissing, on the shore of James Lake, ¾ west of mile 83 on the Ontario Northland Railway. Ten miles north of Temagami Station.
1906-1910: main shaft to 300 ft, levels at 100, 175 and 175 feet; shaft dips 70° W. Open cut workings north of the shaft. Stopes 10 to 20 feet wide. Assays: up to 0.40 % Co; 0.23% /0.4m; 0.32% Zn/0.6m; 42% S; GEOLOGY: MASSIVE SULPHIDES LENSES WITH FELSIC TUFF and PYROCLASTICS, REF INDEX: (3)D. DRILLING, I.P.(GEOLHYS),GEOL,RPTS;(4)D DRILLING.

Nov 02, 2017 (A Wilson) - Massive sulphide lenses with felsic tuff and pyroclastics, The Northland Pyrite Mine lies in a pyrite-bearing zone associated with a band of Keewatin bedded tuffs. This is the only major pyrite zone in the James Lake area and the Northland Pyrite Mine is the only past producer in the area, with no operating mines present silver, molybdenum, platinum, nickel, gold and copper exist in the zone. Fahlband traceable for ¼ mile. A lens shaped pyrite orebody in soft green schist about 100 feet east of hornblende granite contact. Dip is west at 70°.
