Feb 24, 2017 (A Wilson) - Shallow Lake occupies an area of 365 acres, much of which has been dredged for marl. Further reserves may be found in the low wooded area southeast of the lake.

Feb 24, 2017 (A Wilson) - Both gastropod and plecypod shells are present in the marl in moderate numbers and Chara debris is common. Amabel dolomite is the bedrock. The marl is of fair quality. A 5-foot section averaged 87.0 CaCO3, 2.9% MgCO3, 0.34% Fe2O3, 2.9%MgCO3, 0.34% Fe2O3. The crude marl is 47.3% water, 870 pound of dry marl are contained in one cubic yard of the crude.
