Geology

Province: Superior

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Geological mapping (Prest 1953; Jensen 1989, 1985; Johnstone and Trowell 1985; Jensen and Baker 1986; Johnstone and Steele 1989; Troop 1989; Baker et al. 1981; McClenaghan et al. 1989, 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) indicates that bedrock in the area is largely glacial drift covered and consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies except marginal to large felsic intrusive bodies, where amphibolite grade metamorphic aureoles may be developed) volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. Large felsic intrusive bodies also occur in the area.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Assay reports accompany only two drill logs in the assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake. Anomalous gold tenors averaging 0.08 ounce of gold per ton were yielded by an 8 foot core length from Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines drill hole no. G-15. Gold mineralization here is reported to be hosted by grey medium grained biotite lamprophyre or syenite dike material. The dike is reported to contain abundant biotite, fine grained disseminated pyrite, and chalcopyrite. In 1972, the Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines drilling was targeted on potential base metal targets; several diamond drill holes (i.e. hole no. GM-2-72 (collared in the northeast quarter of the north half of lot 1, concession III, Guibord Township), hole no. GM-3-72 (collared in the southwest quarter of the south half of lot 5, concession V, Guibord Township), hole no. GM-4-72 (collared in the southwest quarter of the north half of lot 5, concession IV, Guibord Township), and hole no. GM-5-72 (collared in the northwest quarter of the north half of lot 4, concession IV, Guibord Township) yielded silver assays greater than 1 ounce of silver per ton from core lengths of peridotite, clastic sediments, rhyolite, syenite porphyry, and basalt.
