Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Kathleen iron formation is likely correlative with small segments of iron fromation located immediately east of the south east side of Loonskin Lake. It occurs at the same stratigraphic position as the Judith Iron Range in McMurray Township. These two ranges may represent a once continuous iron formation that has been segmented during deformation. The iron formation faces northwest.

Intermediate Tuff 2 Intermediate To Felsic Tuff Footwall
Mafic Tuff 3 Tuff Hanging Wall

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation consists of granular chert and pyrite. The pyrite occurs near the bottom of the unit. Several veins of coarsely crystalline grayish siderite have also been noted within the formation. A limonitic or gossan was also described as occupying depressions and slopes north and south of the silica member. The underlying felsic metavolcanic rocks are tuffs, lapilli tuff and rare breccia and quartz-feldspar crystal tuff. Teh overlying rocks are mafic tuffs, and massive to pillowed mafic metavolcanic rocks.
