Sep 29, 2015 (Therese Pettigrew) - The occurrence includes two outcrops of fractured and sheared pegmatite, 900 ft apart, exposed in rock cuts on an abandoned highway grade. Two samples submitted in 1949, which were stated to be representative of a width of about 40 ft of pegmatite, showed 0.01 R and 0.045 R. Chemical analysis of a selected specimen sent to the Mines Branch indicated 22.65% ThO2 and 0.85 C. Thorite was identified in a specimen sent to the Geological Survey. Mr. Hale reported that he obtained readings up to 3 times background with a Geiger counter. Four grab samples taken by him showed 0.002 R, 0.007 R, 0.01 R and 0.01 R (Lang, 1952). Samples submitted in 1949 were from a zone of pegmatite 40 ft thick and assayed 0.01% and 0.45% U3O8 (radiometric equivalent; Robertson and Gould, 1983).
