Dec 18, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The veins at Caribou Island as being primarily composed of calcite and secondary pyrite mineralization. Two veins exist on the property and are associated with the contact between the diabase and sedimentary rock. A hand-written report in the RGP Mineral Deposit files (Thunder Bay office) indicate that there are numerous small veinlets of quartz, amethyst, and calcite exposed along the southern shore of the western part of the island. The island was visited in 1976 by OGS staff and two veins were located. The veins were approximately 6 inches wide and about 0.5 km apart, located mainly under water, with very little of the veins exposed on the surface of the island. The veins contained calcite and abundant, fairly large pyrite crystals. The strike of the veins is approximately N65E, running fairly parallel to the shore. No mineralization other than the pyrite was mentioned.
