Exploration History

Nineteen claims were originally staked by Red Lake Goldfields Company Ltd. In February 1928, East Bay Mines of Red Lake Limited was incorporated to take over the group. In 1928 and 1929, surface work, including stripping and trenching was carried out. In 1937 and 1938, over 244 m of diamond drilling was completed. In 1945, Inore Gold Mines Limited was formed which acquired the property. After 1945, more surface work and eleven diamond drill holes were completed. 1985: Diamond drilling by Goldquest Inc.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - The occurrence is underlain by a thick sequence of highly altered mafic metavolcanic flows with a few thin interflow iron formation units. Where strongly foliated, these units have been silicified and carbonatized. Pillow structures have been observed, and stratigraphic tops are to the northwest. Units strike NE-SW and dip steeply NW. The best auriferous zones occur in strongly foliated (sheared) units of highly altered metavolcanic flows. Gold occurs in sulphide rich zones which range from 3 cm to 3 m in width.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - The best auriferous zones occur in strongly foliated (sheared) units of highly altered metavolcanic flows. Gold occurs in sulphide rich zones which range from 3 cm to 3 m in width. Numerous values of greater than 0.10 oz/ton (3.429 g/tonne) Au were returned from drill core, the best being: 1.2 oz/ton (41.142 g/tonne) Au over 1.16 m, 0.3 oz/ton (10.286 g/tonne) Au over 0.59 m, 0.26 oz/ton (8.914 g/tonne)Au over 1.62 m.

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K R Kettles) - The strongly foliated mafic volcanic rocks have been highly silicified, carbonatized, and locally chloritized.
