Mineralization Comments

Dec 20, 2006 (Mark Puumala) - The Riopelle Vein is described by MacQueen (1987) as being hosted within the steeply north-dipping (65 to 75 degrees), ENE-striking Riopelle shear zone. The host rocks are described as basalt, with the vein occurring near the contact between a large massive flow and a unit of pillowed flows. This lithological contact has been folded, with a north- to NNE-striking fracture having developed off the main shear zone. This NNE-striking fracture contains the thickest portion of the vein. The vein ranges in thickness from 2 cm to 1 m and consists of coarse-grained white quartz mineralized with tourmaline, sericite, scheelite and visible gold. MacQueen indicates that the vein has been outlined for a strike-length of approximately 180 m and to a depth of 100 m. McGregor (1989) indicates that Noramco carried out surface sampling on this vein that provided an average Au grade of 0.24 oz/ton across 1.5 m for a strike length of 15 m. The most favourable diamond drill result for this vein reported by Winter (1987) was 0.278 oz/ton over a width of 0.3 m.

Jan 21, 2022 (Therese Pettigrew) - From Thomson (1938): "The Riopelle vein is on claim PA 730 and lies about half a mile southwest of the mine shaft. On the surface it consists of two separate parts with different strike. One part of the vein strikes northeast and dips 75 degrees NW. This is roughly parallel to the Howell vein but offset about 400 feet south of its projected strike. The quartz has a maximum width of about one foot. The other section follows a fracture through massive greenstone in a northwesterly direction and is much twisted and drag-folded (see photograph on page 26). The vein quartz is white and banded with chlorite and tourmaline. It ranges from a mere stringer to a vein more than 3 feet wide. To the northwest the vein disappears under swamp. A few particles of visible gold have been observed on the surface of the vein. Drill-holes were put down on the extension of the Riopelle vein in 1937 and cut gold-bearing vein material. According to a report covering mine operations during the early part of 1937, four of the holes showed values as high as $15.00 over 24 inches. One intersection assayed $12.25 over 30 inches; others gave $4.90 over 36 inches, $9.80 over 30 inches, $22.05 over 6 inches, and $14.70 over 6 inches." In 2010, PC Gold carried out trenching and sampling on Trench C, to the east of the Riopelle Vein. Channel samples returned 1.22 g/t Au over 3 m and 1.67 g/t Au over 3.5 m from late stage quartz veins crosscutting the BIF that may be possible extensions of the Riopelle Vein (Assessment report 20000008078).

Site Visit Information

Date: Jul 18, 2007

Geologist: Mark Puumala

Notes: A stripped exposure of a portion of the Riopelle vein observed on July 18, 2007 had an average orientation of approximately 315/60 (i.e., northwest-striking). The east-northeast-striking portion of the vein could not be observed, apparently overlain by rubble from previous trenching. The general foliation orientation measured in a nearby outcrop of relatively weakly-deformed mafic metavolcanic rocks was 070.
