Mineralization Comments

Dec 29, 2006 (Mark Puumala) - Pye (1976) describes the geology in the area of the Gateway Patricia prospect as being chiefly underlain my mafic metavolcanic rocks, with intercalated bands of quartzite, greywacke, and graphitic schist. Diamond drilling by Gateway Patricia Gold Mines in 1937 (AFRI# 52O09SE0065) is reported to have encountered anomalous gold mineralization in five diamond drill holes (G-16, 17, 19, 20 and 21) advanced on Claim Nos. Pa. 2188 and 2191. Subsequent drilling in the same area by Umex in 1987 (AFRO Nos. 52O08NE0080 and 88) confirmed the presence of gold mineralization in three holes (KAWA-87-1, 2 and 4). The anomalous gold values occur over a strike length of approximately 1 km in sedimentary horizons that were logged by Holmes (1937) as siliceous fine-grained sedimentary rock that was occasionally cherty and/or banded. Umex has re-interpreted the mineralized formation(s) as banded silicate-facies iron formation. Based on diamond drill locations shown on the Umex diamond drill hole location map (AFRO# 52O08NE0088), the horizons reported to contain elevated gold values appear to strike approximately west-northwest. Umex diamond drill hole logs (AFRO Nos. 52O08NE0080 and 88) indicate that gold mineralization is hosted within banded silicate facies iron formation horizons that have been brecciated or cross-fractured, contain significant quartz veining, and are mineralized with pyrite and arsenopyrite (up to 10% sulphides). Some pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite mineralization was also reported. The most notable reported assays include 0.15 oz/ton over 0.9 m in Gateway Patricia ddh G-16, 1190 ppb Au over 1.5 m in Umex ddh KAWA-87-1, and 1390 ppb Au over 1.5 m in Umex ddh KAWA-87-4. It is noteworthy that a number of assay results were not included in the assessment file for Umex ddh KAWA-87-1 and 2.
