Mineralization Comments

Mar 07, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - Talbot (1996a) describes the Rust Seep Zone as a localized concentration of pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite within sulphidized oxide-facies iron formation that is exposed in a series of outcrops and pits on the shore of Horseshoe Lake. The mineralized zone is reported to be a narrow sulphide-rich, cherty unit containing up to 25% densely-disseminated sulphides that form gossans. The sulphides display stringer and replacement textures. The sulphidized iron formation is reported by Talbot (1996) to be hosted in east-striking, sheared, chloritic and strongly carbonatized mafic flows that have been intruded by feldspar porphyry dikes. Talbot (1996) also reports greater than 1% stringer pyrite + pyrrhotite in the sheared mafic metavolcanics, and the common occurrence of pyrite along the porphyry-iron formation contact. Sage and Breaks reported a grab sample assay of 0.02 oz/ton Au from this occurrence, while Talbot (1996a) reports that Norcen Energy Resources obtained a grab sample assay of 700 ppb in 1981, and that prospector Jean Dignard obtained a grab sample assay result of 740 ppb Au from a sample collected from this showing in 1991.
