Mineralization Comments

Oct 24, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - Ayres (1974) described the rocks in the vicinity of this occurrence as consisting of two chert and one slate, septa (northwest-striking) located between thin gabbro sills that form part of the South Trout Lake sill complex. The slate is less than 10 m wide and the chert horizons generally less than 3 m. Mineralization occurs in the westernmost of 4 trenches, adjacent to the sheared margin of one of the gabbro sills. This sill is approximately 6 m wide, and forms the southwest margin of the slate horizon. Mineralization in the gabbro is reported to consist of up to 5% pyrrhotite, minor chalcopyrite and rare pyrite. Variable amounts of pyrite and pyrrhotite (less than 5%) occur in the slate unit as thin concordant lenses, discordant veinlets and rare rounded aggregates. Concordant quartz veins and lenses up to 2.5 cm wide also occur within the sheared margins of the gabbro. Ayres (1974) reported copper assay values of up to 0.1% in grab samples of mineralized gabbro and slate. As these concentrations do not meet the minimum occurrence grade of 0.25%, this occurrence is classified as discretionary.
