Access Description: All season, gravel road access is available via Boreal Road. This traverses west from Highway 590 to Km 10.5, Aldina East Road (63 km from Kakabeka Falls) and beyond. Aldina West Road, a seasonal (winter-plowing required) sandy road provides generally good vehicle access to a ski-doo trail which provides access to eastern side of the grid. The Boreal Road- Hwy 590 intersection is 13 km west and (then) south of the Hwy 590-TransCanada Highway 11-17 intersection.

Exploration History

The region around the former Dawson Road and present Highway 11-17 has seen sporadic mapping from 1872 onward and exploration, largely for iron deposits, from 1901, with heightened activity from 1901-1925. The property was explored for iron between 1950 and 1961. 1991-93: Asarco Exploration Company conducted prospecting and geophysical surveys (magnetometer, VLF-EM). 1996: Stares Contracting discovered sulphide-rich float boulders when cutting new forestry roads. 1996-97: Cumberland Resources conducted line cutting, geological mapping, soil geochemistry, geophysical surveys (magnetometer, VLF-EM, PEM), and drilled 9 DDH totaling 1552 m. 1999: Greater Lenora Resources (later GLR) and RJK Explorations Ltd. conducted IP surveys, trenching, and discovered heavily oxidized bedrock mineralization. 2000: GLR and RJK discovered the Boomer and Calvert massive sulphide boulders. 2000-01: GLR and RJK conducted line cutting, mag and IP geophysical surveys, prospecting, mapping, geochemical surveys, and stripping and trenching. 2001: RJK and GLR discovered additional sulphide boulders, and conducted stripping, line cutting, mag surveys, channel sampling, and lithogeochemical, humus and geochemistry surveys. 2002: GLR and RJK drilled 63 DDH totaling 6916 m. 2004: GLR and RJK drilled 7 DDH totaling 1165 m. 2005-06: GLR and RJK conducted TDEM and mag surveys and drilled 9 holes totaling 826 m. 2009-10: GLR and RJK drilled 10 DDH totaling 1908 m and conducted geological mapping, sampling, and a geochemical soil survey. 2011: GLR changed name to Mistango River Resources. 2014: RJK transferred their interest to Mistango.

Lithology Comments

Apr 30, 2015 (Therese Pettigrew) - Most or all of the supracrustal rocks that underlie Aldina and Sackville townships, a portion of west-central Adrian Township and a part of northern Marks Township fall within the interpreted cycle 3 volcanic succession of the Greenwater assemblage. These rocks consist of fine to medium grained, massive, and rarely pillowed mafic flows with minor interflow clastic and chemical sedimentary rocks, lesser felsic pyroclastic tuffs and flows, all of which are intruded or dilated by gabbro sills and plutons.
