Exploration History

1932: Claims held by J.E. Abott & A. Clark. Fox Lake Gold Syndicate was formed and several test pits and a 30 foot (9 meter) shaft were sunk. 1934: Additional surface work and construction of a 25-ton (22.5 tonne) mill started. 1935: Milling began in January. Shut down after 2 weeks. Mill feed was oxidized material from the Main Zone. No recoveries reported. 1935: Fox Lake Gold Mines Limited was incorporated (May) and took control of the property. Diamond drilling began in August (1935) and continued intermittently until late 1936 (approx. 20 drill holes). Company reported 150 lb (68 kg) sample, sent to Ottawa, returned $43.86 of Au/ton. 1934: 690 lb (313 kg) sample sent to Mines Branch, Ottawa, returned 0.83 oz-t/ton Au, 0.94 oz-t/ton Ag & 1.91% Cu. 1936: 3 samples of 100 lb (45 kg) each from Pit Nos. 6, 7, & 12, were assayed by the Mines Branch (June 1936). Samples represented oxidized material from the trenches to a depth of 20-25 ft (6-7.5 m). Pit No. 6: 0.095 oz-t/ton Au, 0.015 oz-t/ton Ag Pit No 7: 0.02 oz-t/ton Au, 0.01 oz-t/ton Ag Pit No. 12: 0.365 oz-t/ton Au, 0.10 oz-t/ton Ag

Lithology Comments

Oct 11, 2022 (Sheree Hinz) - Quartzites belonging to the Serpent and Gowganda Formations of the Huronian Supergroup trend easterly through the area. Structurally, the property is located on the south limb of the Fox Lake Anticline. The northeast-trending Fox Lake Fault brings sheared and brecciated quartzites of the Serpent and Gowganda Formations into juxta position. These rocks adjacent to the fault are silicified, carbonatized, and veined with quartz.
