Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Eleanor Iron Range is one of the 32 separate iron ranges that make up the Michipicoten Iron Formation. It is the eastern extension of the Helen Iron Range and occurs in a wedge-shaped block bounded on the west and east by branches of the Mildred Lake Fault and on the south by the Wawa-Hawk-Manitowik Lakes fault. The iron range is cut in 3 segments by north-south trending faults that have a horizontal displacement of approximately 600 feet.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation consists of three members, banded chert, pyrite member and the carbonate member. All production has been from the carbonate/siderite member. The siderite ranges from light grey to pale buff and is generally massive with some local laminations. The argillite-pyrite-graphite facies of the iron formation is well exposed on the north wall of the pit. Sulphide occurs as euhedal pyrite as well as cryptoalgal matte pyrite.
