Dec 07, 2005 (D DRAPER) - Lignites of the region are Middle Albian (100 mya B.P.). The oil shale occurs in the Middle member of the Devonian Long Rapids Formation.

Mar 19, 2014 (D DRAPER) - Lignite occurs with wood chips in carbonaceous clay over a 66.5ft interval (235.5 - 302 ft). Minor, very fine-grained sand seams appear intermittently throughout the sequence. Lignite has a vitreous lustre and is also pyritiferous. The main seam occurs from 246 - 268 feet (22 feet in thickness) and a secondary seam (8 feet) at 287 295 ft. Hole ONEX-W83-22, drilled approximately 750m to the southwest of ONEX-82-5 encountered 3 seams of lignite, largest and deepest being a 5.8 foot unit of compact, dark brown woody to black lignite at a depth of 225.8 ft. Oil Shale: The organic-rich middle member of the Long Rapids Formation is made up predominantly of black, grey, and dark brown shales with minor thin bands of greenish-grey pelite.

Dec 07, 2005 (D DRAPER) - Analysis of lignite from main zone yielded a best heat value of 10,295 BTU/lb, with ash at 13.72%. Two other samples also returned dry values in this range (10,096 BTU / 14.16% ash; 10,184 BTU / 13.72% ash). Analysis of a zone of Long Rapids Fm shale from 402 to 426 feet yielded a Fischer Assay oil yield of 7.85 US gal/short ton (or 3.11%).
