Operational Access Description: Access; Travel 4 Km South Of Highway 101 On North Peninsula Road To Bush Road That Branches South East For 1.4 Km To Site. The Bush Road Is Flooded At .7 Km And Blocked Off At Entrance. Alternate Route Is By Boat On Nighthawk Lake. History; 1907 To 1908-prospecting And Gold Island Shaft To 50 Feet. Small Mill Erected; 1919- Bald Island Shaft To 50 Feet With 50 Feet Of Crosscutting At 50 Foot Level; 1921 To 22-20 Holes, 3959 Feet Drilled; 1930-2 Tons Of Material Sent To Mines Branch Ottawa For Testing; 1934 To 1935-hollinger Gold Mines Optioned Property, Sank Shaft 180 Feet With A Station At 170 Feet On Mainland Sw Of Gold Island; 1945 To 50-hr2, No.1 Shaft Dewatered And 13 Feet Of Crosscutting Done On 170 Foot Level. Goldhawk Shaft Sunk To 641 Feet Levels At 225, 350, 475 And 600 Feet, Drifiting 2438 Feet, Crosscutting 1563 Feet, Combined Surface And Underground Drilling 27,438 Feet, Milling Test Of 636 Tons At Broulan Reef Mill. 1960 To 61-17 Holes Drilled Under Option By Mcwatters Gold Mines. The 2000 Survey Identifies A Large Pit With Two Shafts Sunken Within It, One Shaft On Bald Island And Another Shaft On Gold Island. The Pit Was Not Mentioned In Historical Reports.
