Operational Access Description: Access: Located In Mac Johnson Conservation Area North Of Brockville. Exploration And Mining History: Circa 1903 : A Peat Briquetting Plant Was Built Which Was Subsequently Transferred To Peat Industries Ltd (brantford), But It Closed Down A Few Years Later. This Company Carried Out Some Drainage In The W Part Of The Bog - Which Became A Quagmire. C1911 : Worked For Peat Fuel - The Plant Was Idle In 1920. Several Years Of Drainage Of The Bog, By Adjoining Farmland, Was Reported In 1946 In The W Part Of The Deposit. Geology Comments: 10/10/2000 (c Papertzian) - The Bog Has And Area Of 1,400 Acres. The W Part Of The Bog Is, Comparatively, Poorly Humified. The Nw And Centre Are Better And The E Is More Humified (and Deep) But Heavily Wooded. The Peat Depth Varies From 2.5 To 16 Ft And Is Estimated At A Total Volume Of Workable Peat Of 14,314,000 Cu Yds With A Moisture Content Of 25 %.
