Operational Access Description: Mndm Site Rehabilitation Under The Abandoned Mines Rehabilitation Program In 2004. See File. Location: The Former Mine Site Is Encompassed By The Current Hamlet Of Central Patricia, Which Originated In The 1930s As A Town Site For The Mine. Central Patricia Is Located On Highway 599 Approximately 3 Km Ne Of Pickle Lake. History: The Mine Was Owned By Central Patricia Gold Mines Limited And Operated Between 1930 And 1951, Producing Gold And Silver Ore. Development Consisted Of A 3-comp. Shaft 161m Deep In 1930; Levels @ 38,76,114,152; 11 Levels By 1938; Deepest 442; By 1939 Total Of 15 Levels To 625m; Shaft Depth 679m; By 1947 4-comp Winze From 625m To 1044m. Mill Operated 1934 To 1951. Ard Tailings Deposited In 6 Areas Across The Townsite. 1990-1995: Several Provincially Funded Site Investigations Conducted To Document Historic Hazards, Including Mapping And Sampling Of The Tailings Areas. Tailings Found To Contain High Arsenic Concentrations. Concerns Identified With Regard To Dusting And Inhalation Of Tailings. 2002-2004: Rehabilitation Of Crown Pillar Which Extends Under Hwy 599 Undertaken By Mndm Amrp. 2008 Amec Tailings Assessment: Tailings Present In Six Areas Confined By Local Topography. Estimated Total Volume Of Tailings > 545,920 M3. Aba Testing Indicated That Tailings Are Likely To Generate Ard. 2014 Mndm Inspection: Seven Openings To Surface Documented, Which Correspond To Openings Identified In The 1951 Mine Plans And To Those Found During Previous Site Investigations Conducted In The Early 1990s. All Openings To Surface Were Originally Secured By Capping And/or Fencing. Uncapped Openings Represent A Potential Safety Hazard, As Fencing Was In Poor Condition And Had Been Breached. Concrete Caps Over The Shaft And Raises Were Deteriorated, And On Unfenced Raise Cap Was Broken And Collapsed. Particular Concern Was Noted Regarding The Degraded Condition Of The Concrete Piers Supporting The 39 M Headframe, Located Adjacent To Highway 599. Unconfined Tailings Were Observed In Six Distinct Areas As Reported By Amec In 2008. Undisturbed Tailings Were Observed To Have Naturally Re-vegetated To Varying Degrees. Tailings Were Also Observed In Fault Creek And The Kawinogans River. Closure Plan Id: C02
