No Vent Pipes Or Evidence Of These Former Openings Were Noted. Two Waste Rock Piles, Coal Pile And Area Of Unconfined Tailings Noted. Tailings And Waste Rock Were Oxidized. Water Samples Collected In Botham Bay Contained Low Ph And Elevated Metals, Particularly Adjacent To Exposed Tailings Beach. Waste Characterization And Receiving Water Quality Assessment Recommended Secondary Commodity: Iron Mndm Site Rehabilitation Under The Abandoned Mines Rehabilitation Program In 2001. See File. 2001 Crown Pillar Study; Notes Two Capped Shafts And A Capped Vent Raise. Mine Workings Are Unlikely To Extend Below The Realigned Highway 664, And Such, There Is No Crown Pillar Beneath The Highway. Location: The Site Is Located On Highway 664, Approx. 12 Km Southwest Of Sioux Lookout And 8 Km East Of Hudson. Access; From The Junction Of Highways 72 And 664, Travel West On Hwy 664 Approx. 8 Km. The Site Is Located On The South Side Of The Highway With A Sign Announcing "alternative Wilderness Experiences" Posted Near The Entrance. Access Road Gated With Chain (2013). Past Producer-pyrite Mine; 2 Shafts (production) + 1 Ventilation Shaft; 6 Levels; Possible Additional Hazard Of Acid Drainage; #1 Shaft 1905; Production 1909-1921; 500,000 Tons Pyrite; Drilling 1952; Claim Map Area: G-3379; Commodity: Fe/s; The Year 1993 Survey Reports Two Capped Shafts, A Capped Vent Raise, Some Mine Equipment, Two Pits, Waste Rock Piles, Tailings Area And Stockpiled Coal. A Field Ph Of 2.45 And Field Conductivity Of 1160umhos/cm Were Measured In A Surface Water Sample Collected From Vermillion Lake Adjacent To The Tailings/waste Rock Area. Oblique Photographs Taken From The Air Show Acid Mine Drainage From The North Pines Site Entering Vermillion Lake.
