Operational Access Description: Access: Located Approximately 8 Km Southwest Of The City Of Greater Sudbury And 2 Km Southwest Of Copper Cliff. Access To The Site Is By Regional Road 55. Turn South Onto Power Street And Travel Approximately 2 Km To The Gate House. History: The Refinery Has Hosted A Number Of Oprations. The Iron Ore Recovery Plant Was Commissioned In 1953 To Recover Nickel And Iron Ore, And Continued Operating Until 1980. The Sulphur Products Department (acid Plant) Was Commissioned In 1956 To Recover Elemental Sulphur Produced At The Iorp. The Acid Plant Has Been Demolished. An Xanthate Plant Ceased Production In 1997. The Nickel Refinery Was Opened In 1973 And Is Currently In Production. Closure Plan Id: I02
