Operational Access Description: Access: Located 3.5 Km Northeast Of The Falconbridge Smelter In Falconbridge, Ontario. Access To The Site Is Through The Main Security Fence Of The Falconbridge Smelter Complex. History: Mining Operations Began In 1929; Milling And Smelting Operations Soon Followed. Closure Of The Tailings Began In 1996 And Was Expected To Be Completed By 2007. Deposition Of Non-hazardous Industrial Waste Occurred In The 1970's And Resumed In The Fall Of 1995.
