Operational Access Description: Access: Located Northwest Of Downtown Kirkland Lake. To Access The Site From Hwy 66, Take Goodfish Road North For 1km And Then Turn West Onto A Gravel Road. The Road Travels Along The North Edge Of The Tailings. History: Over A Period Of About 30 Years, Four Separate Mills Deposited Tailings Into The North Basin Of Kirkland Lake. Since 1947, No Known Mining Activity Took Place At The Kirkland Lake Tailings Site Until 1988 When A Company Called Eastmaque Gold Mines Began To Reprocess The Tailings. Once They Were Reprocessed In The Mill, The Tailings Were Deposited Back Into The Old Kirkland Lake Tailings Basin Area. Eastmaque Ceased Operations In 1991 Because They Became Uneconomical.
