Jul 14, 2006 (Q Unknown) - This occurrence is located in the vicinity of a thin unit of northwesterly striking mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks that is indicated on ODM Map 2237 to be bounded by metasedimentary rocks to the southwest and intrusive rocks to the northeast. This record is based on a reported occurrence of 2700 ppm (0.27%) copper in a sample collected by the geological Survey of Canada during a bedrock geochemical survey that was carried out in 1960-61. No information is available regarding the material that was sampled. However, a grab sample was collected near this location by Asarco Exploration (AFRI File, Thunder Bay North Resident geologist Office) in the late 1960s. This sampled material was described as being collected from a narrow shear zone containing 1 to 2 feet of massive banded pyrrhotite and minor chalcopyrite in a host rock described as amphibolite-andesite. A white quartz vein that cross-cut the pyrrhotite was also documented. The Asarco sample was reported to contain 0.02% copper and 0.01% nickel. Little information is available regarding the structural geology in the vicinity of this occurrence. However, ODM Map P564 does indicate considerable variability in foliation orientations in this area. The showing is located near the Uchi/English River Subprovince boundary. In this area the Subprovince boundary may represent a transitional zone to an accretionary prism tectonic setting.
