Mineralization Comments

Feb 06, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - This gold occurrence is located within a unit of altered banded magnetite-chert iron formation that was drilled (ddh WL88-05) by Umex (AFRI# 52O08NW0007) to assess gold potential near the nose of a folded iron formation unit mapped by Mullen (1987). The folded structure is a synform with a northeast plunging (approximately 40 degrees) axis. Drill hole WL88-05 is located on the northwest limb of this structure. Mullen (1987) reports that surface mapping in the area indicated that the iron formation occurs within fine to medium-grained massive to foliated amphiboite (mafic metavolcanics), and that these rocks are intruded by granitoid dikes and sills. The diamond drill hole log for WL88-05 confirms this interpretation. The gold mineralization in WL88-05 is reported on the diamond drill hole log to occur in an approximately 2.7 m wide section of finely-banded, contorted chert-magnetite iron formation. The sulphide content of this horizon was reported to be low, although a single pyritic fracture was noted. The most significant reported assay was 2345 ppb Au over 0.68 m.
