Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Sachigo

Terrane: North Caribou

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Mar 19, 2007 (A Wilson) - The stratigraphic section consists of Archean-aged, steeply dipping, mafic to felsic volcanic rocks with minor amounts of interflow sediments intruded by sills and small stocks of gabbro and granites. The volcanic units have been isoclinally folded to produce a weak to very strong foliation.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Limestone 1 Fossiliferous Near
Gabbro 2 Gabbro Near
Intermediate Tuff 3 Tuff Host

Lithology Comments

Mar 19, 2007 (A Wilson) - Diamond drilling intersected a gabbroic intrusion overlying a sequence of felsic tuffs and laipilli tuffs. Mineralization is hosted by the felsic metavolcanic rocks.

Mineralization Comments

Mar 19, 2007 (A Wilson) - Mineralization consists of an 8,.6 m core interval of 20-60% pyrite in thin (<2 cm) bands and 0-10% magnetite in thin (<2 cm) bands or as disseminations hosted by a chloritic felsic tuff. A 2.05 m section of core graded 1.15% Zn and 0.19% Cu approximately 15 m down hole from the mineralized zone in a section with up to 55% disseminated pyrite and sphalerite.

Alteration Comments

Mar 19, 2007 (A Wilson) - The chlorite alteration increases towards the mineralized zone.
