Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Sachigo

Terrane: North Caribou

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Mar 20, 2007 (A Wilson) - The stratigraphic section consists of Archean-aged, steeply dipping, mafic to felsic volcanic rocks with minor amounts of interflow sediments intruded by sills and small stocks of gabbro and granites. The volcanic units have been isoclinally folded to produce a weak to very strong foliation.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Gabbro 1 Sheared Hanging Wall
Felsic Tuff 2 Rhyolite Tuff Host

Lithology Comments

Mar 20, 2007 (A Wilson) - Minor (1-5%) pyrite and pyrrhotite is present as disseminations and in fractures throughout a gabbro unit. The gabbro is weakly to moderately foliated and variably chlorite altered suggesting that it may be a subvolcanic intrusion rather than a post volcanic intrusion. The highest grade of mineralization occurs in a strongly foliated rhyolite tuff containing minor carbonate veinlets. The rhyolite becomes garnetiferous with depth.

Mineralization Comments

Mar 20, 2007 (A Wilson) - A 0.95 m section of drill core returned 1.4 g/t Ag and 0.963 g/t Au. The same interval returned 0.18% Cu and 0.01% Zn. The drill hole tested a weak 600 m long conductivity anomaly.
