Mineralization Comments

May 23, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - The main Camp (Wemichikosi) Island occurrence is described by Bateman (1939) as consisting of a 20 cm wide, northeast-striking vein of massive arsenopyrite hosted within a diorite intrusion. The vein is indicated to have been traced for an approximate strike length of 20 m. This vein is reported by Bateman (1939) to be located approximately 75 m north of a parallel fracture zone in diorite that is approximately 15 m wide and >150 m long, based on the results of diamond drilling carried out in the area by Spirit Lake Gold Mines in 1937. This fracture zone contains widely-spaced and variably-oriented 5 to 8 cm tourmaline-quartz stringers mineralized with fine-grained massive arsenopyrite. Bateman (1939) also mapped numerous steep-dipping (80 degrees to the northwest), northeast-striking pyrite stringers in the area of this occurrence. According to Wood (1977), significant portions of the host intrusion (Bijou Point Complex) have been sheared and altered. An assay value of 0.25 oz/ton Au was reported from this occurrence by Bateman (1939).
