Mineralization Comments

05/24/2007 (M A Puumala) - Hodgson (1990) describes this occurrence as an approximately 200 m long zone hosted within a metasedimentary rock-dominated sequence. Mapping by Hodgson (1990) indicates that the mineralized zone strikes approximately 070, and that the stratigraphy in the area dips steeply toward the south (approximately 80 degrees). The mineralized horizon appears to approximately parallel the contact with the Bijou Point Complex intrusion, which is located immediately to the north. The lithologies described in the area of the occurrence by Hodgson (1990) include quartzite, conglomerate and chlorite schist (possible metavolcanic horizons). Mineralization is reported to occur largely in the chlorite schist, and consists of silicified, sericitized horizons containing 10 to 15% disseminated and bedded pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and galena. One 4 cm wide mineralized zone is reported to consist of massive pyrite, chalcopyrite and galena. This massive horizon is surrounded by a 1 to 2 m wide silicified alteration zone containing 10-15% disseminated pyrite. Notable grab sample assays reported from this zone by Hodgson (1990) include 0.064 oz/ton Au and 4.1 oz/ton Ag from the massive sulphide horizon, and 0.09 oz/ton Au from a location approximately 200 m to the southwest.
