Mineralization Comments

06/05/2007 (M A Puumala) - Brereton (1988) reports that anomalous gold assays were obtained at this location from a number of shear-hosted, sulphide-rich laminae and disseminations within metasedimentary/metavolcanic rocks in close proximity to (i.e., immediately southwest of) the contact with the Bijou Point Complex diorite intrusion. The individual mineralized horizons are relatively narrow (i.e., less than 1 m wide) and contain up to 15% arsenopyrite, which occurs as fine needle-like grains. Mapping by Brereton (1988) indicates that the most significant mineralized shear is oriented approximately 315/80, approximately parallel to the inferred intrusive contact. The most significant assay reported by Brereton from this area was 0.36 oz/ton Au from the main mineralized zone (sample NSL-87-12). Additional anomalous assays were obtained from an approximately parallel zone located immediately to the west. These assay results included 0.21 oz/ton Au (NSL-87-13) and 0.088 oz/ton Au (PBR-88-13).

12/17/2020 (T Pettigrew) - Gold assay values ranged up to 0.74 oz/ton from a sample of pyrite-arsenopyrite shear material from within the diorite on the north end of the small island. The overall shear zone here is in excess of 20 m in width although the mineralized zone from which the sample was taken is less than 30 cm wide. Samples of sheared, rusty pyrite-arsenopyrite-bearing diorite Immediately to the south, on and near the lake shore, returned significant gold values (NSL-87-09, 0.17 oz/ton Au; NSL-87-10, 0.18 oz/ton Au; NSL-87-11, 0.17 oz/ton Au). Individual mineralized zones appear to be less than 0.5 m. Sample NSL-87-12 returned 0.36 oz/ton Au. The sample is from a zone less than 1 m in width containing locally up to 15% or more of fine arsenopyrite needles as sulphide-rich laminae and disseminations. Sampling to the west of sample NSL-87-13 (0.21 oz/ton Au) returned 0.088 oz/ton Au (sample PBR-88-13). The 15 cm quartz-chalcopyrite vein on claim 977535 assayed 0.097 oz/ton Au (sample PBR-88-05). Gold values correlate in a general way with both copper and arsenic although the correlation would seem to be the strongest with arsenic. Pyrite-bearing samples with very low As-Cu concentrations typically contain little or no gold (e.g. PBR-88-02, 08, etc.). Modestly anomalous Sb and Pb values (80 ppm, 1500 ppb) were recorded in samples PBR-88-05 and 010, respectively. An Hg value of greater than 1,000 ppb was recorded in sample PBR-88-03 corresponding to a gold value of 0.028 oz/ton. Sample PBR-88-5 returned 24,000 ppm Cu and 4200 ppb Au (Assessment report 20000004867). Samples taken in 1990 by Pelangio-Larder Mines returned up to 0.17 oz/t Au (Assessment report 20000004865).
