Mineralization Comments

06/05/2007 (M A Puumala) - The Turcotte Zone is described by Moody (1976) as a series of 060-striking, steep southerly-dipping chalcopyrite stringers that occur over an approximate width of 7.6 m. The chalcopyrite stringers are reported to be up to 2.5 cm wide and are reported to occur in a tuffaceous horizon. However, Wood (1977) indicates that the mineralization occurs within intermediate intrusive rocks of the Bijou Point Complex. Two shear zones/faults have been identified by Moody (1976) and Wood (1977) in the immediate vicinity of this occurrence. One of these shears strikes approximately 070 (Wood 1977), and separates Bijou Point from Kachipwapikak and Kichiminitik Islands. The main portion of this shear zone is reported by Moody (1976) to have been intersected below the lake during diamond drilling and is indicated to be chloritic and mineralized with chalcopyrite stringers. This shear zone appears likely to have a genetic relationship to the copper mineralization. The second shear/fault zone strikes approximately 140 and has been mapped in the area between Bijou Point and Kichiminitik Island. Wood (1977) indicates that mineralization in the veins consists of massive chalcopyrite in discrete pods, with associated pyrite and/or pyrrhotite, magnetite, quartz, calcite and tourmaline. Bornite was also reported to be present in the veins by Moody (1976). Copper mineralization has been interpreted by Moody (1976) to extend underwater to the northeast. A second similar showing (East Island Zone) exposed on the west shore of East (Kichiminitik) Island may represent a portion of the same mineralized zone. However, the relationship between these occurrences may be more complex, as these showings are separated by the 140-striking shear zone that has been mapped between Bijou Point and Kichiminitik Island. Moody (1976) has also noted that appreciable magnetite is present near the area where the two faults are interpreted to intersect. Assay results reported by Moody (1976) for a 7.5 m chip sample collected in 1.5 m intervals across the width of the mineralized zone were 4.79% Cu, 0.60 oz/ton Ag and 0.06 oz/ton Au. Diamond drilling of the Turcotte Zone (4 holes) was reported by Moody (1976) to have confirmed mineralization at shallow depth, but returned assays <1% Cu. Moody (1976) also reported the presence of copper mineralization approximately 120 m south of the Turcotte Zone. However, no additional details were provided.

10/10/2018 (T Pettigrew) - The diamond drill program of 1971 had returns of 1.81% copper, 0.10 ounces gold and 0.86 ounces of silver per ton was intersected over 1.0 foot in diamond drill hole 3-71 and values of 2.29% copper, 0.04 ounces gold and 1.00 ounces of silver per ton was intersected over 1.5 feet in diamond drill hole 1-71 (AFRI 53C10SW0014).
