Exploration History

1987: Geotest Corporation conducted reconnaissance prospecting and a geological evaluation of the occurrence. 1988: Geotest Corporation conducted an airborne magnetic and VLF-EM survey. 2014: GoldenShare sampled the outcrops along the margins of the swamp covering the showing.

Nov 14, 2016 (Andrew Tims) - The showing falls in the middle of a large linear swampy area that coincides with a NW-SE regional fault. On the SW side of the swamp, the geology consists of massive quartz-diorite, relatively coarse grained, is light to medium grey, with rusted mineralized zones in Quartz veining ranging from a few centimeters to about 40 cm. Pyrite is present from trace to 1%, and may reach up to 10% at places; Chalcopyrite is generally found in traces and may reach 1% on occasion; arsenopyrite ranges from trace to massive pods at places.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 31, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - Atkinson et al. (1990) refer to the Geotest occurrence is an old trench sunk on a zone containing numerous narrow quartz veins and shear zones. This trench is located along a northwest-trending series of mineralized quartz veins and related shears that are reported by Cruickshank (1988) to have strike orientations ranging between 140 and 185. Whittaker (1989) indicates that the shears range in width from 0.1 to 1.5 m, commonly host quartz veins that range in width from 3 to 20 cm, and have a general orientation of 150/90. A secondary set of shears oriented 065/90 was also noted by Whittaker (1989). The majority of the veins and shears are subparallel to the regional foliation trend, which is indicated by Ayres (1972a) to strike approximately northwest and dip steeply to the northeast. The mineralized shears and veins occur within a trondjhemite intrusion, where outcrops drop off to the northeast into an area of muskeg (Cruickshank 1988). Mineralization in the quartz veins is reported to consist of disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite (up to a few percent), with local concentrations of arsenopyrite. Thin cross-cutting veins of chalcopyrite and arsenopyrite are also reported by Cruickshank (1988). Exploration work reported by Cruickshank (1988) suggests that the Geotest veins form part of a series of auriferous quartz veins that occur parallel to a major northwest-striking (1420) fault structure, and extend over a minimum strike length of approximately 600 m between the Newconex showing (MDI53C13SE00084) in the northwest, to Geotest sample location 89190 in the southeast. All of these showings occur in felsic intrusive outcrops, near the edge of a low-lying, linear area of muskeg that parallels the interpreted fault structure. This fault, which was mapped by Ayres (1972), covers a minimum strike length of 10 km and forms the boundary between a trondhjemite intrusion to the southwest and mafic metavolcanics to the northeast. Notable assay results from grab samples collected by Geotest (Cruickshank 1988) include the following: 5.4 g/t Au and 3.6 g/t Ag from a pod of quartz containing 50% sulphide at the southeast end of the zone (location 89192); 1240 ppb Au and 4.1 g/t Ag from gossanous quartz rubble collected from a trench in the central area (location 89195); 2.0 g/t Au and 3.3 g/t Ag from a 1 cm veinlet of arsenopyrite near the northwest end of the zone (location 89200); 0.97% Cu from sample location 89196; and 1.4 g/t Au and 3.3 g/t Ag from a 20 cm wide quartz vein near the northwest end of the zone (location 89204). An assay result of 7460 ppb (7.46 g/t) Au was also reported from this occurrence in a sample collected by Whittaker (1989).


Jul 31, 2019 (Therese Pettigrew) - Samples from the 2014 prospecting program returned values of 5.81 ppm Au, 5.20 ppm Au, 2.11 ppm Au, and 1.55 ppm Au, up to 8.40 ppm Ag, 0.12% Cu, and >10,000 ppm As. GoldenShare described the best sample as coming from quartz and sulphides impregnations and veins cutting quartz diorite, with arsenopyrite from traces to massive pods and pyrite from traces to 5-10% locally (Assessment report 20000008320).
