Mineralization Comments

Jan 12, 2012 (Mark Puumala) - The Zione occurrence is described by Mazurski (1982) as a variable width quartz vein (a few mm to 35 cm) that is hosted within a dark green, coarse-grained gabbro. Metasedimentary rocks outcrop approximately 8 m east of the vein. Coll (1982) indicates that the metasedimentary rocks consist of quartzite, argillite, conglomerate, ferruginous chert and sulphide facies iron formation. The metasedimentary rock sequence strikes 150 to 170 and dips steeply toward the east. The orientation of the quartz vein is reported to be 170/71, and it has been exposed over a strike-length of 20 m. The gabbro is slightly sheared adjacent to the quartz vein contact. The vein consists of milky-white, sugary quartz that is mineralized with disseminated actinolite, tourmaline, pyrrhotite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and galena. Rare visible gold was also observed in the vein by Mazurski (1982). Hurst (1929) reported that visible gold was more frequently found in silicified portions of the wall rock, and often in streaks or patches of sheared wall rock within the vein. Hurst (1929) also noted an association of visible gold with a tin-white mineral that was suspected to be the bismuth telluride tetradymite. Hurst (1929) also reported that the general area of this occurrence contains numerous zones of sulphide mineralization that occur in shear zones, or in remnants of metasedimentary and/or metavolcanic rocks found within the gabbro intrusion(s). These mineralized zones are of variable width (a few cm to 6 m), and can extend for over 100 m. These mineralized zones consist of foliation-parallel streaks, patches and disseminations of pyrrhotite and pyrite with minor chalcopyrite and sphalerite. Grab samples of Zione quartz vein material were reported by Mazurski (1982) to have assayed up to 2 oz/ton Au, 0.84 oz/ton Ag and 24 ppm Bi. Ayres (1970) reported grab sample assays of up to 0.98 oz/ton Au from this occurrence. 2007 Prospecting report completed, no significant assays reported. 2011: No new information
