Mineralization Comments

Nov 01, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - This prospect is located on an east-west-striking dextral shear zone referred to by Whittaker (1989) as the Rathouse Bay shear or lineament. Rocks to the north of the Rathouse Bay shear are dominated by felsic metavolcanics (flows and tuffs), while the rocks to the south are dominated by a sequence of mafic metavolcanic flows with intercalated metasedimentary rocks. Whittaker (1989) reports that foliation has a regional average orientation of west-northwest to northwest, but that is rotates to an approximate east-west orientation in close proximity to the Rathouse Bay shear. Whittaker (1989) describes the surface expression of this occurrence as consisting of mineralized quartz-tourmaline veins hosted within mafic metavolcanics. The veins are reported to be mineralized with disseminated pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, and possible arsenopyrite. These mineralized veins are reported to be found on the south side of the Rathouse Bay shear zone. Vein strike orientations range between 120 and 150 with steep northeasterly dips. Chute (1988) reported anomalous gold concentrations (8424 ppb) in a grab sample of gossanous mafic metavolcanics mineralized with 1% pyrite that was collected from this location. Two Greystar Resources diamond drill holes (NBE-88-08 and 16) are reported by Whitakker (1989) to have intersected gold mineralization associated with the Rathouse Bay lineament at locations covering a strike-length of 350 m. Chute (1988) reported gold assays of up to 0.16 oz/ton in quartz veins hosted within an approximately 12 m wide intersection of silicified mafic metavolcanics mineralized with trace to 1% pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, arsenopyrite and tourmaline in drill hole NBE-88-08. An assay of 1929 ppb Au was reported by Chute (1988) from a 1.0 m intersection in NBE-88-16 that contained quartz veins mineralized with up to 60% tourmaline, 10% pyrrhotite and 5% chalcopyrite. The mafic metavolcanic host rocks were reported to be mineralized with stringer to disseminated sulphides in close proximity to the veins. Drill hole NBE-88-08 is located approximately 500 m east of the easternmost known extent of the Green Mica Zone (MDI000000000412). The Green Mica Zone is a northwest-striking gold mineralized structure that intersects the Rathouse Bay lineament (Whittaker 1989). Therefore, it is possible that the Rathouse Bay lineament and Green Mica zones are part of a single gold-mineralized system of structures.
