Jan 22, 2014 (A Wilson) - The porphyry is described as being black in colour and cut by a grey quartz-calcite vein. The black porphyry lies within an 8.83m section of calcitic andesite, chloritic andesite, black porphyry and fedspar porphyry. The fine-grained, feldspar porphyry contains cream phenocrysts to 3.0 mm. The phenocrysts are subhedral, digested fragments and include dark rounded amphibole grains to 5 mm. The porphyry is known as the Gillies Lake porphyry. Gold occurs east and above the Gillies Lake porphyry along a tuff horizon.
