Mineralization Comments

Mar 07, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - McWilliams, Gillan and Smith (1981) report that this occurrence is found in an area dominated by muskeg and overburden with few, widely scattered, outcrops. Airborne geophysical surveys carried out by the Great Plains Development Company of Canada over the Horseshoe Lake greenstone belt in 1971 resulted in the identification of a number of geophysical anomalies that were subsequently tested during a 25 hole diamond drilling program. This occurrence is based on assay results reported by McWilliams, Gillan and Smith (1981) to have been obtained from Great Plains Development Company's diamond drill hole number 72-C-16. McWilliams, Gillan and Smith (1981) report that the diamond drilling program carried out by Great Plains Development Company in this area intersected an assemblage of sedimentary and volcanic schists and gneisses, with granite and quartz/carbonate veins being encountered in some holes. The geophysical anomalies (magnetic and electromagnetic) were interpreted to have been caused by pyrite and pyrrhotite mineralization, which was found in all drill holes (McWilliams, Gillan and Smith 1981). A drill hole summary log for 72-C-16 provided by McWilliams, Gillan and Smith (1981) indicates that a significant nickel assay was obtained from a sample collected from a unit of chlorite-biotite gneiss that was encountered from 136.7 to 139.6 m below ground surface. The mineralized zone contained 20 to 30% disseminated pyrrhotite (locally up to 60%), and nickel assays ranging from 0.03 to 0.09% were reported to have been obtained. However, McWilliams, Gillan and Smith (1981) provide no information regarding the depths or lengths of the sampled intervals. The mineralized section was reported to be underlain by a unit of chlorite-serpentine-biotite gneiss containing localized asbestos. The drill hole was terminated in this unit at a depth of 155.45 m.
