Mineralization Comments

Mar 11, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - Talbot (1996) described the Reg Lake shear zone as an east-southeast-striking shear that cross-cuts an east-trending sequence of intercalated clastic metasedimentary rocks, mafic to felsic metavolcanics, and pyroclastics. The dominant metasedimentary rocks are described as saccharoidal, biotite-rich, and strongly-foliated quartzite, while the felsic metavolcanics are described as bleached, saccharoidal, biotite-rich and strongly-foliated. Talbot (1996) describes the sheared mafic metavolcanics as being gabbroic and containing 2-5% disseminated pyrrhotite and pyrite. Numerous felsic dikes/sills are also reported to intrude the metasedimentary-metavolcanic sequence parallel to the lithological contacts. McWilliams, Gillan and Smith (1981) reported an assay of 740 ppb Au from a grab sample of sheared quartzite, while Talbot (1996) obtained a grab sample result of 760 ppb Au from a sample of sheared mafic metavolcanics.
